I was told I didn’t need a 5kw heater, will a 2kw warm my van
We hear this a lot. A 2kw will definitely heat your van but lets look at this like comparing a 4 cylinder car with a V8 racing around a race track. Sure the 4 cylinder will get you there but the V8 is always going to get there quicker with less effort. We aren’t against 2kw heaters but for most vans a 5kw is definitely the way to go.
I am not sure where to put my heater, where do you recommend?
We spend quite a while trying to find the best spot for your heater. It should be central so it warms up the entire van. Before we install it, we ensure there are no obstructions underneath the van such as water tanks or pipes.
I was told to put kerosene in my diesel, is this recommended?
We do not recommend you add kerosene or any additives to your fuel. This is often recommended for alpine areas but we are lucky in Australia, the fuel in these areas is already treated for cooler conditions. Kerosene will work but it can contaminate your fuel. You will hear that it runs hotter with an additive but remember 20 degrees is always 20 degrees.
Should I run my heater on high before I turn it off?
There is no need to do this. If your van is in storage for several months we do recommend running your heater once a month for about 10 minutes. This burns off unused fuel and will prevent your fuel from going bad.
Will AGM charging gear work with lithium?
No. AGM and lithium charging gear is different. Check your charging gear to see which one it is compatible with. Some will charge both but they may need to have some settings changed.
How often should I reseal my roof?
We recommend you reseal your roof every 3- 4 years. However, you should check it regularly to ensure there are no holes or wear in your seal. This can happen from movement in the caravan
How many batteries do I need?
This really depends on if you are going to be off grid and the appliances you are using. As you can imagine an air-fryer or microwave will use a lot of power but your 12v lights won’t use a lot. Give us a call and we can discuss your battery needs.
